I’m guessing your wife doesn’t also qualify for the prefix “tootall” to her name? 😛
It does look a bit odd at the front end. Maybe turn the stem over or remove some spacers, but then again, fit is more important than looks, so whatever she feels most comfortable with.

Some newer shimano front derailleurs have the cable stop built in and don’t need one on the frame. Or, as others said, get a backstop. They were very commonly used to run v brakes on canti frames BITD.

But you completely wasted your time on the bike. LOOK AT THOSE WEEDS! 😡

Weeds want sorting, valve and rim logos misaligned, cranks and pedals aren’t level for the photo, forks are on backwards….. 😉

Also don’t get the correlation between bar ends and tyres.

Wheels are 29ers, and the frame is a 15″, and yep, Mrs tootallpaul isn’t too tall at all.

Looking at her inbred, the front end needs to drop a little to match that, so we’ll be slamming the stem I think.

Oh yes- and it is a cut and shut wall. But its only a wall, its not part of anything.

And the weeds aren’t mine, so I don’t care!

I think it’s the problem with not being that tall and having a fairly fixed height on the front of a bike determined by wheel (or basket) size…

The mech just bolts directly onto the flat plate which is welded onto the seat tue on the frame. All you need is the mech and bolt it on.

It’s a nice system, certainly easier to set up and tidier than the clamp on design.

The direct mount band on is a Problem Solvers item, I think Charlie the Bikemonger stocks them but quite pricey (£40). I bought a new frame so it came with one, the shims are aluminium and seemed too thick, so i replaced them with some plastic shimano shims that I had spare.

I think someone else makes a version, Brand X possibly(?).

Best to get those bars down unless your wife likes to wheelie up hills.

How old is you frame? Mine is new this year and no DM plate, same size.

I have a bolt-on DM plate for sale if you need one. It was off an El Mariachi so should be OK.

It’s a nice bike, but just as a slight debate, why 29″, that was always going to hike the front end up.

If she’s small enough to warrant that bike then the bars are hoooge. I think that’s the spacehopper-hugging position.

Why 29? Because she prefers 29ers- never really got along with 26.

Everyone seems very hung up on the riding position- as I said earlier, this is just the initial build- I’m not even sure the saddle is the right height. There are a bunch of spacers to play with under the stem too. And sag to set on the fork.

It will all work out OK I’m sure…
