if it were me in his situation i’d ride it out for as long as possible before it got too heavy. although now might be the time before the kids start asking/saying too much. if things do spill over then he is royally ****’d. not only does he risk platic surgery but also the outfall of the potential break-up of his step-mums relationship with her bestmate.

he can’t talk to his dad about it for the above reason. he doesn’t have much to do with the kids at school/college because they are all much younger than him. he can’t talk about it with his colleagues because they know the man of the wife he is ‘um-hum’-ing.
