What albums do you listen to that haven’t dated? i.e. if it was released tomorrow it would still be the hit it was when it was first released?

I’m currently listening to Def Cut – Street Level 2002 and it could be released now and sound great! There are other older albums I think still sound great – Stereo MC’s for one….

Give me a list worth downloading….

    Cheers

    Yes. Serious.

The Doors, Cream, AC/DC – good ones.

I also think Janes Addiction are pretty timeless. Along with The Stranglers.

    ….. and The Velvet Underground….

Talking Heads…77 / Speaking in Tongues / Fear of Music / Remain in the Light / Stop Making Sense…
They all still sound fresh. Still amazes me how ’77 (from 1977) was coming out at the same time as a lot of the disco tripe and punk ..but so different for the period.

Thinking Leftfield Leftism and some Utah Saints stuff. Also some less well known trancy stuff from the mid to late 90s like Union Jack ( http://www.discogs.com/UnionJack-There-Will-Be-No-Armageddon/release/42861 ).

Stick on your old Pixies albums and try and find a bad song – they still sound awesome.

Janes Addiction would be the antithesis of this for me zedsdead. Ripped all their old stuff to mp3 a while back and couldn’t believe how weak it sounded. Used to love them but I guess my ears have changed – ymmv and all that.

I reckon the drum machine on the “backing tape” at the start of Stop Making Sense has dated quite badly, but it’s still a good album. And while the Pixies albums I have do have many good songs on them the production lets them down for me. Are You Experienced? by the Jimi Hendrix Experience hasn’t dated very badly, which perhaps goes to show how much rock music still lives in Jimi Hendrix’s shadow.
