All, any tips for a multifunction printer with cheap cartridge refills? Tempted by a Canon Pixma MP280 at £30, but the cartridges are about the same! Some of the Epson models appear better.

Our old Canon i250 remains fine and cartridges are £3-4, but the girlfriends mum wants a all in one…

Ideally want a multifunction with cartridges around that price…?

Not quite the answer you’re looking for but I’d steer clear of Lexmark printers. Not found them very reliable and rather than a simple printer driver you end up having to install a load of rubbish on your PC.

Unbranded cartridge refills can be fine and a lot cheaper with the caveat that you get less information on how quickly they are emptying.

Generally the cheaper the printer the more expensive the ( unique ) cartridges.

Kodak are currently making a song and dance about their printers running costs, so one from them might be worth checking out.

The Register has a top 10 round up here.
