Any good on black ice?! (dumb question but gotta be asked!)

Ice (metal studded) tyres yep great, pretty much normal levels of grip, snow (big fat low press) tyres work just as badly as any other tyre.

loads better than a standard tyre!..ridden on frozen rutted iced roads last 3 weeks on endomorphs at 8-10 psi..took the reg bike out 3 days ago 30 mins after the pugsley and it was awful..front tucking on every ridge..fats float..and thats how they grip.. 🙂

The question was about black ice rather than rutted ice though 🙂

ridden on frozen rutted iced roads/cycle paths last 3 weeks on 700x28c cross towns at 45psi and 1.8 panaracer muds at 30psi.

    no bother.

got claws for the black ice when it comes though- snow is just clean mud !

Studded tyres are amazing on black ice – I found it quite frightening to be able to ride at speed on ice – it just seems so wrong – conti snow claws here – 120 studs in each.

    just a quick heads up.
i made some of the ice tyres with the chains and zip tie method last night, took me 20 mins, and boy's they are awesome.
rode in today on ice, compressed snow, slush and the grey stuff that you can't steer on.
    not one bum pinching moment.
