Andalucia. Lots of great trails that aren’t all gnarly descents. Hook up with Wayne at http://www.hikeandbikeholidays.com/

Garda Lake? Usually very good weather and you have the lake to jump in after a ride. There are all grades of trails to ride and it is a bit of a mecca for German mtbers.

I’m interested in this as well, but driveable from Calais. I’ve had a couple of not very good trips to France with the mountain bike and ended up wishing I’d brought the road bike. I’m going to give Houffalize in Belgium a try this July and if that’s crap it’ll be the end of my European mountain bike trips.

White room certainly accommodated my pathetic level of skill.

Have you tried going somewhere with mountains?

Nick – went to http://bikingandalucia.com. run by Dave who is a nice fella, Winter 2013. Lovely accommodation, decent trails, nothing too mad, great village (orgiva) and good value. Not far from airport. Also consider Tenerife where Darran from http://www.lavatrax.com has an uplift truck and lots of fab routes although that did have quite a lot of tech in some of them!. He recommended us a great hotel away from the tourist horror on the beach. This year (TOMORROW in fact!), we’re off to http://mtbholidaysfrance.com in the Pyrenees run by a mate of mine. First year they are doing official guiding and they’ll tailor the routes for you depending on what you want. They have access to lots of different trails.

After that you’ll get lots of recommendations for Spain – Ciclo Montana (ace) we’ve been with and Marko is fab. Not been with Switchbacks or any of the others down there but a search will show most people recommend them.

I’m assuming you mean this time of year so not going too high…

I’ve been with the following , and its been pretty good:-

    – Switchbacks in the sierra nevada region of spain
    – Les arcs in france without a guide
    – tramuntbike in mallorca

Would recommend all of these. none are particularly gnarly.

lol at the implication that europe has no decent mountain biking. From my experience and in my opinion its a million times better than the biking in the UK.

Seriously get yourself to the alps, or the pyrenees, or the sierra nevada, book in with any one of the many mountain bike guiding companies mentioned in this thread.

http://www.bikeverbier.com – amazing holidays. They carefully split their groups so everyone gets to ride the type of stuff they really enjoy. The singletrack here is mind-blowing, and BV will get you to epic backcountry trails if that’s your thing, or gentler xc stuff if you prefer. Great food, super-friendly and highly professional guides, gorgeous chalet and lovely hot weather/dry trails through summer. Loads of regulars on this forum will tell you how great these trips are.

You wont go far wrong with Bike Verbier. Thinking about the next holiday with them is the only thing that is keeping me sane at the moment till the pot comes off.

The Vosges region of France is very different to much of the alpine regions, it isn’t at all “gnar” just lots of pleasant (mainly woodland) singletrack dotted with nice villages to stop at for coffee and cake.

Stunning singletrack rides with plenty of bus uplift during the day & fantastic après-bike on the coast at night.
