I’m heading off to Canada next week for a fly-drive holiday ending in Whistler. I’ll be renting a bike and going for a few rides, probably just in the bike park if I’m honest. Just wondering if anyone has any experience/recommendations relating to travel insurance and cover for MTBing

I went to France / Italy last year and used Virgin Travel insurance for a single trip. I was a little concerned when I saw that proper mountain biking had a surcharge until I found out it was about £8 for 5 days.

I’d start there and see how other quotes match up.

Think it was about £30 all in on the black cover

Make sure you check the exclusions related to mountain biking. Non specialist companies have some interesting wording.

e.g. you probably wont be riding on paved trails only, and you’ll probably be above their limit elevation. Not typically an issue in small incidents where you can take yourself to get care.. but huge problem in the worst case scenario.
While you’re in the North Van – Squamish – Whistler area and you’re after some guiding. get in touch 😉

Dogtag insurance will cover you, probably under the ‘extreme’ level (they also cover competition so no worries for ‘just’ riding). I’ve found prices for Europe reasonable, can’t see Canada resulting in a massive price hike.

…..leaving the insurance a bit late though!

Cheers for all your help guys! I’ll have a look into the guided rides too BearBack. I don’t just want to do a run of the mill up and down the bike park so would be good to go a bit further afield.

Dogtag would cover me but its over £150 which I don’t think is worth it for 1 or 2 days riding. Virgin seems pretty good but I have to call them with the specifics of the riding I’ll be doing so I’ll sort it out on Monday. Very late I know but I’ll get it sorted 🙂
