Looks very nice, seeing a lot more surfaces around in business these days and most doing plenty of work.

That does look nice. Windows 10 S though – I had to Google this, it’s kinda like Chromium. https://www.theverge.com/2017/5/2/15506378/microsoft-windows-10-s-os-operating-system-announced-features

And for $999 seems a bargain.

@Cougar yes, sort of – but full functionality offline. Also you can upgrade to W10 Pro for $49 which is not a lot.

I saw this in an article:

An extra $49 for the functionality you’d expect from a Windows laptop seems like a bad idea from Microsoft. Fortunately, Microsoft is allowing potential Surface Laptop owners to avoid the fee until the end of the year, and throwing Office 365 Personal in for free so it should be a non-issue for early adopters, at least.

It’s the first windows laptop I’ve seen that looks aesthetically pleasing.

Default browser locked to Edge and Default search engine locked to Bing unless you upgrade the OS – no thanks!

I wish they would stop fannying about and bring out an updated Surface Book.

I was about to buy the performance base one but the odd resolution 3000×2000 puts me off, as does the lack of usb C and thunderbolt along with the astronomical price for the i7 with 16gb ram and 512gb SSD.

The HP Spectre is a much better price but the gold highlights are a bit…hmm made in Chelsea/Essex

I’d take it as a given the upgrade would be happening anyway, not sure how often the browser launches automatically these days anyway.

So… are they selling this with just the Windows 10S software or can you buy it with the full OS as well for a wee bit more (i.e. without having to go through the $49 update process)?

It’ll probably be just a few clicks, not a re-install. Not a problem for me.

I still remember RT though which was awesome but then got dumped :(. Would make me a bit reluctant to try again but I do like the idea

That would be a killer although I’m sure you would be able just to go to google.com and search from there.

I still use a Surface RT.

It’s perfect for my specific use-case. I do training presentations to small charities and ride to them on my bike.

I can check emails, edit office docs (inc. powerpoint), connect to a clicker, mouse and projector through a nicely made, lightweight device with great battery life that can’t get any viruses and never slows down as time goes on.
