converting what to mp3 or mp3 to what?

windows media player (yechh) will rip cds to mp3. so will winamp.
most cd/dvd burning software will go mp3 to .cda

You don't have to use Itune with an ipod, there a plugin that allow you to us Window Media player (doesn't work for iphones 3.0 though, Booo!)

Is this a trick question?…you don't want anything to do with Apple…so a Microsoft product perhaps…Windows Media Player (?) which is very likely already installed on your pc (?). Some old versions didn't rip MP3 but I've just checked mine (version 11) and it looks fine.

yes, still underwarrenty but i'm not in the UK. have just bought a Hama SD card reader mp3 thingy for 9€, about the same cost as sending the thing back to UK with insured post.
