… does anyone know whether you can recover a file that was moved from a hard drive rather than deleted (shift+delete)?? Which one is more permanent?

    Thanks for any clues 😉

If your talking about Windows and unless you have chosen for 'secure deletion' then in both cases the file has not been permanently deleted and you may be able to recover it. There is something called a file allocation table that 'points' to the files location on the disk. All that has happened is that the 'pointer' has been removed from the list. The actual data is still there and will eventually be overwritten.

There are various tools to search the disk for files that are no longer 'pointed' to. Try this

Are you looking to recover a file or be sure that something incriminating has been deleted? 🙂
