  • Mounting heavy glass on a wall – how?

    Mrs A has bought a glass picture, 160 x 80 x 1cm. I believe it’s tempered glass.

It’s pretty heavy. Ideally I’d like to mount it by drilling holes in each corner and screwing (gently) to the wall. Would this be ok or would the lad carrying holes be over stressed?

Other suggestions where you can’t see the months/brackets through the glass?

    Thanks

Mirror clips – lots of different styles available. Google will help.

    forget drilling tempered glass.

I’d get two nicely finished and rebated ‘rails’ top and bottom and use them to hold it.

As it’s glass does it work better with light behind it, btw?

Like this but permanent (and same/smaller width than glass).

Holes in corners and mount on brass stand offs? If it’s not see through, you could mount a split batten on the back? No drilling then.

    Something with magnets.

But seriously, I’d mount a surround it can be popped in, and then fixed.

The glass adhesive stuff is really surprisingly good. Maybe a bit too fixed for this purpose though?

More options than you probably need.
Not sure how hard glass is to drill..
    Leave space for expansion.

Drilling it isn’t an option – it’s a specialist job. Holes etc normally made before the toughening process.
Brackets as mentioned above but that’s a thick piece of glass and it will weigh about 32kg so you need to be sure about all aspects of the fixing. Why not ask the place/artist you bought it from for their recommendations?

Put a frame around the entire piece, then put security fixings for pictures on the frame.
    Secure. Neat.
