There were two big water trucks with taps on the back (bowsers?).
Forecast is dry and it's sunny just down the road in Worcester at the moment

forecast getting progressively worse!

Oi Bazza, that space ain't on our team I hope? Everything's sorted at this end for me and my mate to rock up sometime on Saturday morning. Or afternoon. Probably. Anyway, we're coming so just make sure we've enough space for the van and a tent.
As for the weather - the more rain the better. Brings all you skinny/soft/effeminate/titty-lipper buggers down to my level. Walking.

We need a rider. Come on folks.
Posted 2 years ago # -
I too have some spaces - who wants to ride?

I guess there are a fair few people like me who've just tired of being engulfed in a tidal wave of gloop every year. I've done all the Eastnor Mayhems and only one has been really dry and summery. It's also the same weekend as Glastonbury and Wimbledon is on, the Unholy Trinity of summer sogginess.
Doing SITS though, just bought properly narrow tyres in expectation of more mud :-/
Posted 2 years ago # -
The Sits mud last year was worse than any mayhem i have ever done .......... i remember the dry mayhem as i did it solo but every year since then has been mudfest !!!
1.8 fire xc mud were amazing at sits last year

In my case I expected some local riders to come good after some rides last year together as they all expressed interest in doing some events summer 2009 and in the meantime it's me that does all the chivvying and emails and prompting etc, so I never told them I'd got a team entered just in case I lost faith in them.
One of the guys messed me about for about 5 weeks with a bike I was selling and then never bought it so he was left out of the plan for the summer events, then they all sort of lost the plot over the winter / new year, so I thought I'd see if they were actually worth maintaining contact with and the answer, sadly, is a resounding No!
Thus I offer up the spaces.

Don't forget British Grand Prix is also this weekend.

forecast is light showers fri, dry and sunny sat and sun (as seen @ 6am 17/6/09)

Be prepared for the mudfest, the Three Counties Show is on this weekend - that's another rain magnet for Malvern.

"Be prepared for the mudfest, the Three Counties Show is on this weekend - that's another rain magnet for Malvern."
Hence the warnings about huge traffic jams on the way to MM
Best get there early then....

When are the queues likely to be at there worst ?
On previous years, when have the majority of people turned up?I have always left London at about 7am on the Saturday, and made it with about half an hour of registration left.
This year I have managed to wangle leaving at 4pm on Friday, so should turn up between 7 and 8.
Posted 2 years ago # -
I'm getting there at about 11AM Friday just to be sure.... and to have some beers and a bbq after a sighting lap or 2.

Re traffic if you are running late then avoid the A38 junction 1 M50 going through Upton where most of the 3 Counties traffic will be going as it can cause huge tailbacks. Try junction 2 instead signposted to gloucester and head for Ledbury instead - that should get your there much faster.
Afraid it started raining here about an hour ago which is similar to last year - still its only light so could blow over tonight. Last weekend was a scorcher and Eastnor was dry and hardpacked, plus there have been lots of efforts to sort out the drainage and build hardy trails so dont go crying into your beers tonight - think positive thoughts no negative vibes dude

Any more news on the course? There was a google earth link about this time last year IIRC?
Posted 2 years ago # -
google earth link would be great, even to the old course perhaps??

LAST YEARS Route
Read it is similar but reversed, but there must be a few bits from last year that can't be done the other way (muddy off camber bit with the steep drop?)Posted 2 years ago # -
Oggles, I read the same thing but I am not sure how possible that will be. They have done some modifications to drainage and I believe they have put some form of gravel in the worse parts to stop it getting boggy. But who really cares. The course will be however it is.
Posted 2 years ago # -
Lack of course detail is due to it not being built til err, about now!
Following the rapid deterioration of some of the newly cut off-camber singletrack in last years monsoon, they've waited to get a more definite idea of weather to work out the bits to miss out/include and the direction to run it in.Posted 2 years ago # -
Agreed, it would be nice to see a map agaib but the old climb which last year became the big roller-coaster descent will be missed if it has been reversed again!
BTW latest f'cast is at http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/wm/great_malvern_forecast_weather.html
The malverns hills have been generally as dry as stick for days (95% of the tracks in any case) with the odd damp patch under the trees ready to suck you in...and then we have another downpour today just to top them up...a lottery for tyres again.

Who is going down today?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Went down last night to set up our camp. There's little trackside camping this year due to the arena being in the first field as you go in. the normal arena field is out of bounds this year.
Damp under foot down there but sure it'll dry out a bit by Sat.
Posted 2 years ago # -
is there a family/quiet area this year, with plenty of room ?
whereabouts is it, it was right up the top last year, past the arena.
Are we to take it that if the main arena area is out of bounds, that there is a significantly smaller camping area available this year?Posted 2 years ago # -
It looked liked the camping area was also the otherside of the old arena field. There looks to be plenty of camping space just one field isn't being used and little trackside camping.

there was a bit of rain through this way (Malvern) yesterday afternoon, but with any luck a few good days will dry it out.
Cycled past yesterday afternoon and noticed the marquees on the way in - looks a very different lay out.
Sheldon - whereabouts is camp AMTBC this year? I might pop over tomorrow evening with beer.
Posted 2 years ago # -
Near our normal spot but up the feild s bit by the hedge/ditch and the track.
Posted 2 years ago # -
i shall be there tonight pitching stuff, should i look out for freakily large wheels?
Posted 2 years ago # -
OK - will come and find you and Mandi and the rest tomorrow afternoon/evening some time.
Weather report is still looking remarkably good!
Posted 2 years ago # -

Posted 2 years ago # -
