I also no longer take too much notice of metcheck, just posted it looking for a rise, after all, they forecast sleet for the early hours of last saturday morning for my postcode.
Don't really care what the weather is like, am only there to enjoy myself as the only way I'm likely to win anything is if stw do another spot prize thing for wearing one of their jerseys (DVD, waterbottle and a mug with some torq gels last year)

I can't help you with the SS gear ratios but last year's course had 385m of height gain per lap, mainly comprised of 2 hills in the first half of the lap.

Another vote for the offcamber section after the switchback corner and 2 small drop offs. At its worst, it was lethally slippery to walk or try to ride.
Surfr - I ran 32:16 the last two years (during the dry spells) and dropped to 32:18 in the mudfest. It was not so much about the gearing but getting traction that I struggled with. Anyway, you always have the Singlespeeders 2nd gear - walk what you can't ride!
The forecast from the Met office is quite optomistic for the event, still that can change on an hourly basis!!
At least there should be plenty of Shower Gel if it is muddy.... ;0)

I accidently decided to it solo and am worried.
I am about five weeks behind in my training schedule due to a combination of chest infection, achillies problems and lazyitas.
I will apologies now for being very slow and in your way and if you shout 'On the right' as you pass there will be a bit of a delay while i try and work out if I should move right or left and which way right is.

Im in for a 4 man singlespeed team. Not so worried about the weather as ill either be riding or walking nothing else.
I came up with a training schedule with a bit of help from a mate who does triathlons
Basically start off with 2 * 2 hour rides midweek at approx 70% max heart rate and a long ride at the weekend. Do this for three weeks
Add a gym session to work your core muscles because it will help
then gently up the hours, 2 * 3hrs and a longer weekend ride. 2 weeks of this
2 * 4 midweek one long ride and one gently ride at the weekend.
Slowly build up like this until you are doing two long weekend rides that total your expected race distance over a weekend.
You should reach this level three weeks before the event when you start tapering down 75% race distance, 50%, 25%.
This all sounded good but didnt happen

hmm, sounds similar to my basic plan, but my weekend total ain't gonna get anywhere near that! perhaps 12-13 hours max over the weekend

thursday night for us - SO has been talked into an all girl team so support crew has now been diminished.
Still looking forward to it, not sure why as the last time I did it it was one of the most miserable experiences of my life.

@Dimmadan: No. It would seem all the moisture that collects in the deer parks ends up on the course, so your tents will be fine. As you will discover, the campsite is all gently sloping down to the lake, so i'll be obvious where will be a safe place to camp.

Going to go and have some fun. Aim is to do 6 or 7 laps over the 2 days and work out a strategy for SITS

So was the great ride I had in the dry and warm (almost hot) yorkshire Dales yesterday ideal preperation - or am I being over optimsitic?
In years past, weather forecasts have magically changed to rainy ones by about Wednesday or Thursday and we have had traditional weather. But it does look a bit iffy this time I'll agree.

Been distracted by surfing too much last few months to train on the bike as I should have.
At least now its looking like paddling/swimming skills'll come in handy on the course.
