  • Motorway incident – should I be concerned?

Input from law enforcement officers particularly welcome. 🙂

Was using the inside lane and immediately just past a turnoff, on the grassy verge betwixt motorway and turnoff, stood a man. He was wearing a hi-viz top with a (small) camera aiming at me. No lettering on the top, no Police car, no Police motorbike. Nobody else with him. ❓

    Should I be worried?

    Thank you so much. 🙂

I once saw a ‘bag lady’ complete with shopping trolly full of her worldy belongings walking along the verge of M42.

If you work for Eddie Stobart then this appears quiet normal :

Otherwise (if it’s defn a motorway and not a dual carriageway) then be worried.

It wasn’t a man, it was a cyborg from the future.

    Jeeeezus …….. were you pushing a shopping trolly C_G ? 😯

Nope. Even if you were breaking some law.

Unless he is a particularly enthusiastic stalker.

My job often took me to the side of the motorway/dual carriageway/trunk road with a camera whilst wearing a hi-viz.

The camera was never directly pointed at any particular car, but often an object that the cars would pass in front of. On a busy road it was impossible not to catch someone in the frame.

On the plus side, it was quite amusing watching speeding motorists crap themselves thinking I was the rozzers.

Thank you for the amusing replies! 8)

I, er, just really want to know whether he could have been an unmarked Police officer.

Anyone know the rules as regards whether their presence has to be obvious?

A copper (or even an AA man) will never stand on a motorway unless they absolutely have to. It’s too much like work (or dangerous) apparently 🙂

Surely if a surveyor or whoever was carrying out their duties, should there not be a warning sign or some cones? Can’t believe that someone could be working in such a dangerous position.

STR – could you answer that question please^ Thanks.

Short duration work <15 minutes doesn’t need traffic management/signs etc – car would just be parked on hard shoulder with flashing orange beacons and not necessarily any other markings.

Work on the motorway is dangerous regardless. The biggest safety factor is being aware of your surroundings – a row of traffic cones isn’t going to protect you if 40 tons of articulated lorry decides it’s going on a detour.

    My motorway truck…

If you were not breaking the law and the law was that man standing with a camera pointing at you, you have nothing to worry about.

    simple really no.

Perhaps she was doing something wrong onceinalifetime and just wants some reassurance that she doesn’t have 3 points coming.

I bet you’ve never done owt wrong have you?

Thanks STR. There was no car parked. Very odd.

Oh and please – no comments on a lady’s driving skills. 😉

Shut your poophole str, if she was not blatantly failing the law then she has nowt to worry bout.

Cinnamoon girl – always had her down as an angel, not a hell’s angel.

c g – if it was near a junction, car could have been parked anywhere.

I’ve left my car and walked a couple of miles down the motorway before

It may well have been a resident from an underfunded care home out for a stroll, due to H and Safetey, care staff are not allowed out to look for the poor bloke.
