    Evening all,

Conscious I’ve added a 200 threads in the last 24 hours (I guess that’s what forums are for though so)…

    Anyway, I’ve got a triple chainset 104bcd 4 bolt.

If I wanted to put a narrow wide on it would I need to buy some washers or some shorter chainring bolt?

Any links to the best/cheapest way to get this a 1x chainset?

Also will a 1x narrow wide ring work with a 9 speed chain?

Yes I’m building a frankenparts bike

Depends on the crank, but I’d generally always use chain tab shims, rather than shorter chainring bolts. If you use short bolts you’re basically applying the same amount of force to a smaller area, which can lead to damaged crank tabs/snapped bolts.

    9 speed should work, yes.

I’ve always just put half-height single-speed chainring bolts on when I’ve converted triples to singles, and never had a problem. That’s with mostly Shimano XT/Deore chainsets. But washers would work as well, might be a bit less pretty.

Mavic make some nice chainring bolts that tighten up with a hex key rather than the hateful chainring tool thingy.

I’ve had a n/w chainring with 9-speed, I think it should be fine.

Or use a 30T chainring which are usually threaded so you just use half the old bolt you take out.
