My wife’s planted some seeds and forgotten what they are. Anyone know?

She who is wise thinks it may be some sort of bush but she doesn’t know what. I bow to her horticultural knowledge but keep her well clear of the bikes

Because they look like the ones that sprout in our garden from seeds produced by the trees over the road, especially your seedlings with the red-tinged leaves.

Most likely some form of wild cherry or black thorn. A prunus of some description.

Have you got a flowering cherry nearby?

She planted some seeds in the trough some time ago and it was left outside (along with a lot of other failed seeds) but then these started growing, slowly. It’s been next to other plant pots the whole time, and none of these plants are growing in the other pots or anywhere else in the garden. It’s hard to imagine how they could be self seeded in only that spot, and all the same age (the other seedlings are weeds), and nowhere else.

Definitely didn’t plant tree seeds.

Blackbirds are excellent at distributing cherry stones in unexpected places via airdrop..

Birds tend to either spit or crap the seeds out. They look identical to the cherry seedlings growing in my gravel from next doors cherry tree.
