Anyone modified their Thule / Atera / Buzz tow bar mount bike carrier to take fat wheels?

I’ve tried cutting a section of guttering but it seems to have too much flex when even when bolted down tight to hold the front wheel straight.

Interesting – I bought a piece of square section guttering to try this exact modification tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it goes…

Can you get some strip metal / bar from a motor factor and scratch build some wheel rack extensions?

Or maybe make something out of some cls/ treated timber , thinking with some grooves cut in and shaped to fit round the existing metal work.

I just extended the length of the straps on my Atera.
    Works fine.

Yeah Thule roof rack here – just use longer straps – 2 toe straps or a Bungy per wheel. Has worked fine for last two years.

I tried my modification this morning and it works fine.

4 slots cut in each bit of guttering and jubilee clipped to the rack. Longer straps added and it’s rock solid. I do need to get some shorter jubilee clips and cut down the straps though, but frostbite was setting in at this point.

Thanks for the photos, got mine finished today – could have been that the guttering i was using is cheap so reinforced underneath and now seems pretty solid.
