Is it possible to copy and paste a reference code in a word document that has a number on the end that'll automatically increment the number by one every time?
I'm in the midst of doing some spec writing where I need to apply a paragraph specific code within someone else's locked format document and I'm starting to go a bit mad doing it.
    oh, sorry.

You mean like when you're referencing stuff? Like when you're quoting, like on Wikipedia?

If only, I know how to do that 🙁
It's adding a specific code to custom Heading 5 something like this:
    XX30.1401 Heading or something
Specific text in 2 further custom styles

XX30.1402 the next heading or something
    More specific text

    XX30.1403 etc.

For more than 29 pages, where it restarts at XY01 etc at various heading separators.

    Using Word 2007?

    Home>Paragraph box>numbering drop down list>define new number format>number format

If you've not got that icon on your paragraph box go Office 'start' button>Word Options>customize>Choose commands from>Home tab>numbering

Thanks, I think I might be able to do it by creating a custom Heading 5 Numbering format. Although the rest of the document formatting falls apart.
    aaarrgghhh…..
I'm going out for a walk.
