Any suggestions for cheap (or free!) options please? The software I’m using at the moment is free and quick/simple to use, but can only do parent/child/sibling style relationships. I’m looking for something where I can create/represent a complex conceptual framework – linking between ideas in different branches – or group ideas then break off into another branch. I am using it for my dissertation planning – I need to construct a logical flow of concepts, links, sources etc and so focus research on key nodes (if that makes any sense.

I guess I could do this free hand in powerpoint/word but would, I imagine, be a big pain in the bottom. Any suggestions gratefully received

It’s a while since I’ve used it but there’s an open source one called freemind, might be worth giving that a look.
