I have a set of RS7 square taper cranks, can I just buy an Uno chainring and it’ll go together? Or are there specific Uni cranks that one needs to get as well? 😕

No, you’re best off giving it to me Si. Those Middleburns are rubbish. I’ve got a nice Deore you can have, much better.

yep. I had a duo and just converted to a singlespeed with an uno

    I think they look great

how does it go together? doesn’t look clear from the pics I’ve seen… what are the spline things for?

They do look nice and neat, definitely 🙂

Helps if you have the tool on the left.

so do I need a specific tool for them then? 😕

Yes, the spider / uno chainring is splined and held onto the cranks by a lock-ring that requires the tool above left to undo it. No doubt a hammer and drift may do the job but you might then need to invest in a new crank 😳

    what tool is that then?

i didn’t use a tool. A hammer and massive flat ended screw driver.

1st ride out today and all seems fine

Or much cheaper than the XTR tool – but exactly the same:
    8 prong BB tool

I’d also recommend getting an Uno ring from this guy – Homebrewed Components – beautifully made, a bit cheaper than the Middleburn ones, and available in lots more colours and sizes.

In fairness, even the cheapest tat would look good on a Jones… 🙂

The Homebrew Components link above – I had to seriously force myself not to buy one of those when I was ordering an aluminium Uno ring.

very, very, very nice 😛 $140 – so about £100…….not too bad!

He also does Titanium SS sprockets in 2 flavours:

You really ought to know better than show such a beauty here, it’s a cycling forum so NOBODY rides 😉
Psychle, may I take this opportunity and congratulate you on the splendid 5:0 victory over the Poms? The Ashes were such an overwhelming success for the Aussies.

Boone chainring or a Jones Spaceframe…. let me think….. 😉 I’ve been pondering getting 165/160mm middleburn – I think that Ti chainring has swung it, rekon a 30T would be nice 😀

    Don’t forget import duty….

Also do those flat looking rings give the correct chainline? My Middleburn UNO setup runs fairly close to the chainstay on some frames. Close enough that the Ti ring looks like it could rub…

The Ti one isn’t offset like the UNO and is about 2mm closer to the centreline.

True about the chainline – you’d need a slightly longer BB axle.

Import duty didn’t effect the alu ring I bought, but would probably come into play with the Ti one.
