I was just watching the highlights of the Tour of the Alps. He seemed to be pulling back the years on this race. Very sad news indeed. 🙁

One of my all time heros of my era. Absolutely loved his passion and commitment. He had style and passion and rode with true spirit.

Doesn’t diminish the achievement obviously, but he won it after Contador was banned and therefore removed from the results. Can’t say he was a favourite rider but he had panache and was still at the front at relatively advanced years (for a cyclist). RIP

Michele Scarponi Obituary

Saturday morning saw two workers up early on a sunny spring morning in the Marche region of Italy. One was 37 years old and donned his sky blue Astana kit. The other was a 57 year old builder who climbed into his yellow Fiat Iveco truck. Scarponi set off on a recovery ride, taking the familiar road west out of Filottrano. The builder was driving to Filottrano. As Scarponi rode out of town the builder made a left turn, driving right across the cyclist’s path and killing him on the spot.
