Just heard a new mag's due to hit the shelves. Privateer

I'm getting a copy next week, if my mate "in the know" comes up with the goods. I'll let you know what it's like.

Is there space for another MTB mag; I've still to see the last copy of Singletrack hit the shelves. Seriously, I didn't see it in any WH Smiths (who always used to carry it) nor any other newsagents.

I'm sure STW will be delighted to see competitors advertised on the forum.

Didn't Manley / Davies run ProMTB or MTB World or something similar.

Nine pounds for a bi-monthly publication runs out at £4.50 a month, I just hope their proof-readings better than yours!!

    .
Sound like STW life style crap but without reviews, let alone the £9, s'not for me.

is it not just a future publishing attempt at pushing out singletrack and/or the ride journal? can't help but think the motives are less than virtuous. i recall manley saying he doesn't even like to ride anymore in one of his mbuk editor rants…

i'd buy it, i've requested info too

jimster – It's still 9 quid. It's nothing to do with frequency, it's whether it's worth that amount. Ride Journal is.

Tim Manley used draw wicked willie (I believe) in one of the "jazz mags" in the 80's.
Then he edited MBUK after John Stevenson and also did MTB Pro as well.

That's why I get singletrack, I enjoy reading other people's insights into their motivations rather than a review about a cassette (for instance)

I think that he actually founded MBUK. John Stevenson was the Dep Ed for years.
This new thing doesnt seem to be from Future. more stuff like this , singletrack and Ride journal is good surely? I wouldnt have thought of them as competing with singletrack, like the Ride journal doesnt compete.
And if they do, then it encourages existing publications to keep their quality high.
Better than catalogues of reviews and how to change a gear cable?

Overpriced tat for coffee table owners in London who can afford nice things but dont really ride. If you are really into riding MTBs you simply wouldnt live in London.

ermm I thought John Stevenson emigrated to Oz, helped found CyclingNews then ended up working for Future again after it got taken over

Oops – I wrote Mew. I meant Nev.

It's my daughter's boyfriend who works at Rapha that sent me the link. Figures, really.

Rouleur issue 1 now goes for about £250 on eBay. Damn right I'll be buying Privateer! I happen to really like Rouleur as a read and don't get it just for the investment value. Hope it does well.

I think there's a market for it at £9 and it will be treading on ST's toes a lot more than MBR, WMB. But it's a truly awful name (though I can see how they got there from Rouleur).

    Just looked at the site.

    a) What an awful holding page.
    b) What truly ghastly copy. No really it's horrible.

Holding page is awful; rumour was that issue 1 would be out on 27 Aug, but this is now getting pretty close.

I like the way there is a special introductory offer, but no actual means of signing up for this.

Tym asked me for a 1000 word article, which I delivered, but I had no idea where he planned to publish it. Now I think I know.
