Dan and Martin Maes walked past our apartment in matching GT t-shirts and caps while we were tinkering with bikes the night before the qualis.

I clocked them out the corner of my eye and thought they were gendarmes in casual uniforms, so hailed them with a hearty “bonjour”.

Double fail as it should’ve been “bonsoir”.
