I’m looking at running a 1×10 on my hard tail 29er for the Isle of man end2end.

36t up front with a 12t x 36t on the back.

Medium cage or long cage mech on the back?

I ran a long cage slx on it a while back but it wasn’t that snappy, so was thinking about a medium cage Xt one?

any thoughts???

I run a medium with a 26/38 up front 11-36 out back no probs.

Medium cage is more than enough. In fact you can even run a short cage mech if you don’t have any gears on the front, even if you are using a wide range cassette such as an 11-36.

I run a short cage Ultegra on a 36T 11:32 setup. Works well.

short – single ring
medium – double ring
long – tripple ring

go for a medium that way you could always go back to a double with it
