Do news crews really need to be outside the school in Germany where the kids lost in the plane crash came from?

The circus should leave them alone.

Of course they don’t. But they are because people like to feed the beast.

They’ve got news crews outside the copilot’s house now.

    He isn’t in.

Maybe they’re waiting for him to get back.

They did the same here at my daughter’s school when they lost 5 in a car crash in November. People are interested, it is important, and it is still fresh news. It will pass.

I propose a simple law; TV crews are allowed to doorstep anywhere they want. But everyone is allowed to throw rocks at them while they do it. “Oh you had something terrible happen to you? We’re here to make it worse. Smile!”

Just because Jeremy punches TV people doesn’t mean we all have to.

    Is it though?
I would like door stepping like this explained .
Is it for people with a lack of imagination or is it just to satisfy their curious voyeurism?

The co-pilot is clearly of interest. We all want to know why he did it. What sort of person was he, did he have a normal peaceful life before yesterday? I can’t see a problem with the press looking at that. I don’t expect there is much to see at his door though, but showing police searching and going in and out at least gives them something to show on telly.

The school has had a major tragedy. The lives of the students and staff left behind have been horribly jolted, and local news at least shares that with the community and is part of the grieving process, as are memorials on the steps, and nowadays facebook and twitter posts. On Monday my other daughter was part of a group of 14 coming back from a Spanish school trip and yesterday we immediately thought of what had happened at Danum with the car crash. I honestly don’t think the press caused any real problems, although that may change when the full inquests happen next month, perhaps with blame being publicly apportioned.

I loathe this kind of ‘news’. Grief-porn, it is not news, it is people in shock. The BBC were at that school well within 24 hours, waiting for people to arrive.

I think the coverage of this disaster has been attrotious. I’m away with work so only have access to Sky News and BBC World. Talk about monotonous drivel. At one point there was a woman I recognise as a diet expert from other shows and Chris Akabusi commenting and speculating on the crash and it’s causes. Come on. Has the culmination of human evolution and existence come to this?

If enough of us turn over/off, they will stop showing it.

    Ain’t gonna happen though….

Not while there’s cretins like chewkie and jambalbaheid lapping up every detail so they can pronounce judgement based on whatever rumour is circulated next

    Indeed

We all want to know why he did it.

How will door stepping a school help us in this quest?

I “like” (not like, but find amusing) the Daily Heil articles along the lines of “(lady name) nearly has fashion faux pas as she flashes her knickers”, accompanied by 30 photographs taken with a telephoto lens by some perv clearly lying down as low as possible to get the upskirt shot.
One day one of them will have an incident with a lawnmower, and i shall laugh to myself.

On last nights BBC News at 10 they had two girls from the school being interviewed by a reporter, dunno who but she deserved a clarkson slap as she asked them the most inane questions such as “are you upset about losing your best friend” or words to that effect.

Utterly mindless reporting of the highest order and totally needless, but then again it wasn’t actual reporting as i doubt the BBC allows that anymore.

Even my mum said “It’s **** obvious she’s upset.

    slow news

Heard someone on R4 talking about this but hadn’t thought to Google it until now. A tragedy like this and the media response does highlight the problems with 24hr news.

I have in interest in them finding the technical reason for the crash (I have always had an interest in plane crashes and work in aviation). I’ll sit back and see what is coming in and wait for the technical reason – now we have it. I can now wait for the official report to know the circumstances surrounding it.

Families etc should be kept out of it. Put the cameras somewhere they can get to them if they want to vent their grief/anger on the news (eg the malaysia flight where they felt like they were not being given the whole story) but keep it away from their homes etc. Also in this case keep away from the copilots family. He is being blamed for causing the death of himself and 149 other people, the last thing they want is cameras being shoved in their faces and all their and his private lives splashed all over the World news.

We could withhold their pudding – or is that going a bit far?
