Been going out on my road bike a bit more recently, and have come to the conclusion that even though my road bike has a 34/50 compact on it, I've still not got the legs for the 12-25 cassette on the routes round my way. Obvious answer would just be to get a 12-27 cassette I know, but I've seen a couple of cheap 9spd cassettes for sale in 11-28... I know officially the Tiagra 4500 short cage mech can only handle a 27T max cog, but anyone run one with a 28T cog successfully?

Can't see it being a problem with a 28t. No guarantees, but we've just put an 11-32t on the bosses' cyclo-cross bike with no problem, pretty sure it was a 105 short cage on that.
