    Why????

Choice between free running and play or no play and over tightened bearings. The play further exaggerated by the C3 bearing clearances.

Going to pop in some enduro angular contact bearings, that should sort it. Other solution would have been tube spacer between the bearings to prevent the bearing side load.

Why don’t mavic use a tube spacer, shoulders on the axle or angular contact bearings?

Yes I can adjust the bearings are super quick, dread to imagine the state of the bearings after a few sideways landings.

The bearing arrangement loads the radial bearings in manner they’re not designed to be (sideways) hence you’re either overloading the assembly to remove play or leaving everything loose.

The c3 means the bearings have greater internal clearances, designed for high speed and temperatures, exaggerating the play in the assembly, meaning further incorrectly loading the bearings to take out all the slop.

Is that why my Crossmax back wheel always feels like it’s got play in it….
