Martyn has contacted us to say that he has to go into hospital. He’s asked us to pass on his apologies and we’ve sent him our best wishes. We tried to get another top MTB rider but none are available at short notice. However, we know that 2 wheel enthusiasts generally love other 2 wheel enthusiasts, especially cyclists who do amazing things.

So, we’re delighted to say that Stephen Fabes has agreed to take Martyn’s place on Wednesday.

Stephen is a doctor, writer and adventure cyclist. Like most decisions of great consequence, his plan to cycle around the world was made in a pub, beer in one hand, mini-atlas in the other. He returned in February 2016 having spent six years spanning 75 countries, six continents and 86,209 km by bicycle – a distance equivalent to more than twice around the world. His route wandered from remote cloud forests in Myanmar to the taiga of western Mongolia in the winter; from sequestered valleys of Chechen refugees in the Caucuses, to the deserts of Syria and Afghanistan.

En route Stephen visited remote medical projects serving marginalised people: nomads, refugees, drug addicts, slum-dwellers, sex workers, sufferers of mental illness, deforming and infectious disease. His writing has appeared in The Guardian, The Telegraph, BBC Travel, CNN, Geographical, Adventure Travel, Backpacker and Wild among others. He blogs at http://www.cyclingthe6.com and a book is forthcoming.

We really hope that you will still come along to see Stephen. However, we recognise that some people will have specifically wanted to see Martyn. If so, please email me (dick@wildernesslectures.com) or leave a FB message with us so we have some idea how many seats will be free (Martyn’s talk was a sell out). Then post your tickets back to us at 5 Cliftonwood Crescent together with a stamped addressed envelope and either a note telling us to whom we should write the cheque OR a note of a bank account into which we should transfer the refund.

Bugger. Healing vibes to Martyn and hope we can get to see him another time.
