Not actually ever done one. What’s the score? The riders abide by the Highway Code, so what do I do. I can’t influence anything.
So do I just stand there?

You’re only there to indicate the route to the riders, nothing else. Don’t attempt direct traffic or obstruct the highway. If you see anything wrong report it to the organiser/timekeepers at the end of the event, don’t try and intervene.

Its a walk in the park compared to marshalling a junction at a road race, never again.

Most riders will abide by the code but doubtless you will see some truly terrifying antics too. I compete myself but I would never take the chances I’ve seen others do. Its just not worth it.

Anyway, by law you cannot instruct traffic your just there to show the way.

    Best of luck.

Been there, just a few weeks back in fact. I had a woman charge at the pack after being told the wait could be as long as 20 seconds ❓
