Hope they are ok, sounds like a broken ankle – did anyone see it happen on Tuesday?

Oh! That wouldn’t have been sometime around mid-day? Heli was parked at the hospital when I was going past at ~12:30 – having clearly already dropped off the patient (stopped with my little one to watch it take off).

When you get taken to hospital in a helicopter, what do they do with your bike ?

When my mate was airlifted out Priestcliffe, I had to ride back to the cars at Topley Pike on my bike, pushing his bike alongside me by holding the stem. The rest of the group formed an escort as I was a bit wobbly and that section of the A6 is quite fast. The offroad route along the Pennine Bridleway didn’t exist then so the road was the only option available to us

He dislocated his ankle and fractured the navicular which has been pinned. his bike is safe and sound at his parents. It was his birthday as well!

Helicopter transfer for a broken ankle?

    Really?

Not the best birthday present to get hurt like that. Mind you with a ride in the helicopter it will be one he will remember. Hopefully he mends quickly and gets back out on the bike soon.

Apparently dislocated ankles hurt like hell, but surely he could have hopped away from where ever he was to a road?

Must be nice getting a helicopter ride on your birthday !

I dislocated a kneecap and broke an ankle, followed by half an hour of being beaten up by the shorebreak after a windsurf accident and was helicoptered ( air ambulance) , which was called for by coastguard, because the s and r one they had asked for, was busy with someone in proper trouble. Coastguard from Croyde, looked after all my windsurf kit, properly packed it away with help from my mate and took my car to their yard for safekeeping whilst the hospital put me back together.
I was in no fit state to make the call about modes of transport.

Hope our friend from Malvern is ok.
