Got a few nights in Malaga next week – can anyone recommend some places worth visiting in the city, plus any great places to eat, drink, hear music etc? Interested in arts, culture, architecture, markets, people watching, swimming, everyday Spanish life etc etc. I hear it’s a good city to explore, often ignored by tourists in transit. Ta v much.

The palace on the hill, Alcazaba, is worth a look. The port / waterfront section is good for evening drinks and food. The old town is pretty nice too…

We were there for a long weekend so took a day trip on the metro/train to Benalmadena which has a nice marina and market area and a nice beach but that might not work for you for an evening…

It’s a nice place, we were pleasantly surprised as we only went for late season sunshine.

Cheers all and nice pics beanum. We’re there for three days before heading to the hills. We wanted to have some time in the city because people say it’s underrated – a bit like Murcia in that it’s a provisional city often ignored by tourists, largely to its advantage. Not expecting huge wow factor, just a nice Spanish atmosphere without tons of tourists and tacky crap. Fingers crossed.

If you like tapas try and get a seat at this place – might need to book but we were lucky walking in off the street.

Quite cosy and small tables (we ate at the bar) but the food and atmosphere were amazing

Plenty of lovely tapa bars off the main street near the Cathederal, especially this one..

    La Taberna del Pintxo Lario

The closer the Cathederal the more expensive it gets!

Really lively late at night in the gin bars etc.

The Port area is more modern but still filled with bars and restaurants.

The sightseeing bus is very good as you get to see the whole city which is quite large, plus it gives you tokens for free drinks, tapa and entrance to the Classic Car Museum which is great.

Enjoy as it’s a fantastic city, as is Sevilla which is easy and cheap to get to by train.

Thanks all, some good info here. Been to Seville and Granada already and enjoyed both. Looking forward to somewhere a bit more ‘ordinary’. Cheers again for the tips.

I was there for a stag do last weekend – it was quite a sedate affair to be honest!

Took this from the rooftop bar of the Marriot AC hotel.

Shoddy link, but something like the old ‘el Ray’ gorge walk exists in Scotland, should you need some cheap thrills…
