I've got one of the DX bargain £28 XML magicshine knock-off lights, and although it is thoroughly wonderful and it cheerfully burns holes through the night, the battery it came with is crap - about 1hr 20 on full.
This is not good enough, so I replaced the no-name cells in the pack with some from a spare laptop battery - result! Now I have about 2h 15 runtime on full beam.
However... I still have lots of spare laptop cells, and I'd like to make up a few spare packs for the light. The DX pack has a battery protection circuit in it which I think protects it from overdischarge and probably also balances the charging current. Where can I buy spare BPCs?
I'm tempted to omit them, but I don't think the driver in the DX light cuts off the light at low voltage, so it'd just drag the batteries down to 0v and kill them.
Any ideas?
