Hi, I have been offered a mac book to buy from a a work colleague. He bought this for his partner last year. Over Christmas she has moved back to her parents. She has said she wants nothing from him. Is it safe to buy and not have her saying it is hers/stolen in a few months. Can it be bricked remotely? We have all bought stuff of him before when he was desperate for cash. He has a habit of spending lots if money, never being at home and girls leaving him.

You can lock and do an ‘erase mac’ remotely on macbook pro via the ‘find my iPhone’ app. But if you were to do a fresh install of OSX and reset the default user to yourself it should be fine. I think.

Don’t forget to get a receipt off your pal as well to make sure you can show the Police something if it does go tits up.
