My rear XT M800 mech has started to behave in a very odd way.
When I change into the 46T on the rear the mech refuses to drop back down when the clutch is on.
Turn the clutch off and it functions perfectly.
Everything is set correctly and its been working fine up until today.
The movement in the mech feels normal with the clutch on when compared to several other similar mechs.
    Anyone else had this?
Not really understanding how the clutch can cause this problem?

    clutch: rust ?
take apart, clean, lube, put back together?
the clutch is great when she works – but does strange things when the mech is stuck from rust

    Clutch rust. 😆
Stipped down and rebuilt around a month ago.
They don’t go rusty, the bush in the rear of them gets dry.
You can feel and hear that though.

    Yes that’s right Rich a 46.
I don’t expect you’d buy one as the extra teeth cost more. 😛

Perhaps you missed something? I don’t get why people do this, personally I’ve never had need to take a rear mech apart and it’s not like they don’t get used.

Chain and cassette worn? My m8s started behaving like this and new chain and cassette saw it back to normal.

M8000 mechs do have a habit of sticking at the far reach of their throw. You’re not the only one.

Been working fine until half way through yesterdays ride…

I don’t get why people do this

Because the bush gets dry and the mech stops working and creaks.
TBH it’s looking a bit battle scared so it’ll do as a spare.
I was more interested in if anyone else had had a similar problem?
    Edit.

    Thanks Ben.
I’ll not bother messing about with this one then.
