  • jekkyl
    Full Member

Normally I enjoy pork scratchings, nuts & crisps but trying to keep it low calorie. (I appreciate beer isn’t low calorie before anyone says)
I don’t mind cooking my own snacks so what ya got?

some of the savoury popcorns are pretty good (I have no real idea if they’re low calorie but they’re not oily).

A bowl of salt. Lick your fingers, dip them in, lick, repeat.

Crunch the nuts less. Your body will absorb less energy from them.

Home made popcorn is easy to make. Lovely with a bit if Malden salt.

Buy a dehydrator and make your own jerky.

Thinly slice a joint of beef

Marinate in Worcester sauce soy sauce and chilli flakes overnight.

Stick in dehydrator for approx 6-7hrs

    Crack open the beer.

Makr yr own Gim-gui (roasted nori sheet seaweed snacks)?  Very tasty.  You add as litte or as much salt as you like.  A few sprinkles of that pink salt is a good kick.  Add wasabi for extra oomph 😤

See also kelp or kale chips.

Ask yourself why you need snacks in the first place, is it just a habit?

Also I found a great way to cut alcohol consumption is Belgium beer. A nice tasty one of those instead of 3 IPAs = overall lower alcohol intake. Cheaper too

Choking can also use a fair few calories. 🙂

Ditch the snacks, bet if everyone on here who is overweight just did that then we wouldn’t have endless threads on losing weight –

Pork scratchings. Pig is low calorie, well-known fact.

Snacks by definition are high calorie. That’s why they’re called snacks.

If they weren’t high calorie, they’d be called rice cakes.

^^^  Like you OP I am overweight, and also love the same snacks with beer.  Especially pork scratchings.  Am trying  to turn a lot of stuff around of late, not least  my unhealthy/unsustainable eating habits.  It’s been hard to face/admit but poor health ruled my life for 20 years and my reactionto  that has been to become addicted to shit food. Which now rules a good part of my life.  Its a daily struggle to change.  But – seaweed snacks do taste amazingly good!  They dont pretend to be filling.  Beer is filling 😉

Snacks likely make you want to drink more beer, and the calorie intake will go up.

Does anyone else do that thing where you want a snack, you know what snack you want but then you munch through several different healthy snacks, trying to avoid the bad snack, before finally succumbing to the original snack desire anyway.

Overall kcal count is higher than if you’d just eaten what you really wanted in the first place.

When alcohol is involved, this is my general cycle.

Sorry OP, not helpful, just wanted to share.

Oh, actually, red peppers and humous or babybel with branston. M&S prawn crackers or mini poppadums are less kcals than a similar sized bag of proper crisps.

I quite like rice cakes or Rivita, spread liberally with low fat Philadelphia type cheese, some cucumber and a small slice of ham.

I think I’ll experiment with roasted vegetables laced with chilli or some such. Do you reckon roasted green beans would work. I will try that chick pea idea as well. It has to be dry though, couldn’t mix any form of cheese with beer.
