ive been having this problem for a while, ive used the same chainset on 2 bikes and i keep getting this strange loud clicking noise,

i will be riding along then maybe free wheel for a bit, then when i put the power down i get the sound, ive checked and replaced granny and middle ring, cassette and chain,

when im off the bike i can sometime make it do it by pushing down with my hand on the pedal/crank but cant work out where it is coming from,or if im goner go up a short steep bank or something it does it

    any ideas ?

I had the same thing on my old Meta. It was a proper SNAP that you could feel through the pedal. Never happened after getting a new frame. Either something in the rebuild fixed it or it was the cracked frame groaning. (got a new crank/ bb for rebuild

    (might have been the seatpost)

That'd be my bet for the cause then. Try a new/different one.
