  • Loss of balance – any suggestions for a cure?

I’m having problems with my balance since Mid December. Doc says it’s to do with crystals in my semi circular canal brushing against the hairs in there that give us our sense of balance. Room spins when I lie down, and when I turn around quickly 😯 I’ve had this before and it went in about a month, but this time it just wont go. Doc has suggested seeing a specialist who tilts your head in particular ways in the hope the crystal lodges somewhere where it won’t keep causing problems. Had this before and it did no good. Am I doooomed!

I’m not a doctor but your GP seems to have come to a complex explanation for your symptoms. Has he done any tests to come to his crystals theory?

Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labyrinthitis and Google labyrinthitis for other info. A friend of mine has had it a couple of times. First time he was so disorientated and dizzy he couldn’t even walk unaided and it lasted a week. 2nd time the dizzyness was less severe but it did make him sick often when travelling etc. This lasted a few weeks but was less severe. Both times his GP prescribed anti-interrogatories and possibly an anti-viral. Do you have another GP in your practise that you can get a second opinion from?

Thanks for the info. Interesting video! I think I’ll go and see another GP and get confirmation of what the hell this really is. Interestingly it started up again after listening to a REALLY loud band in the local pub!
