I’ve been running 2.10 UST Crossmarks at low pressures in mainly dry or damp sandy hardpack. They’re around 800g apiece, and I’d like to try something lighter – another fast-rolling maybe non-UST tyre with sealant.

Since they’re going to slide at some point, I’d prefer a round cross-section which breaks away gracefully.

What can you suggest?

Race Kings are good, sidewalls are too thin for rocky areas though.

Didn’t realise such surfaces existed in the UK!
I’m an Aussie and sandy hardpack is all I used to ride.
My fav combo used to be Ignitor front and Crossmark rear.
If the Crossmark was too slippery for you I’d suggest a Larsen TT on the rear.
Failing that just go with 2 Ignitors – they are seriously good front and rear.

I use panaracer razors. The 2.3 version.
They are amazing. And a surprising amount of grip (any crashes have been the result of my incompetence not the tyres letting go)

Speed Kings are pretty good around Thetford which is pretty sandy (when it’s no a wintery bog)…

They don’t cope too well with deeper sand, but I’m not sure anything does.

@hugor very perceptive! I’m in Thailand… 🙂 The crossmarks are good, but a heavy carcase in UST. The surfaces are mostly hardpacked sandy dirt, usually dry, sometimes damp or wet – with a dusting of loose sand off the edges. I’ve ridden at Thetford and it was looser than here.

Just got back from a ride where the front wheel washed out cutting across a bumpy dirt road fast :(. My mistake but maybe the Race Kings as there aren’t many rocks.

The Kenda Small-Block 8s look interesting but there doesn’t seem to be many users.

Rocket Rons look good for grippy cornering and I’ve liked a few Schwalbe tyres.

Another suggestion was WTB TCS Bronson eg 2.1 at 640g – has anyone tried these?

I use a Larsen on the rear for most of my riding on the Quantocks and its sometimes sandy there 😛
