I was watching my dog takea dump over the weekend and it occurred to me that different animals produce different types of poo presumably due to what they eat. I’m guessing this is related to the amount of meat that goes into one’s diet but why?

i.e. a Carnivore like a dog produces a long thin doobery, and so do I for that matter and I eat plenty of veg. Now a rabbit produces little round ones as do sheep. Horses produce large round ones and cows just a big dollop.

So why do animals do this? Is it diet or is there something fundamentally different about the make up of our gut/intestine?

I caught my son (when he was much younger) going into the bathroom, looking to “Get a hat just like that mole”. It took but a moment for the penny to drop.

    “Er, son…”
