My IBM T41 thinkpad died a while back from the common video chip failure and so i cant even use an external screen.

the hard drive is a ThinkPad 40GB High Speed 5400RPM ATA/100 EIDE 2.5-inch hard disk drive.

Can i just use something as simple as this to plug the drive in to my desktop and retrieve the contents?

    Drive bay thingy
Just want to check as all the enclosures say they are SATA / SATA150 etc and the drive says it ATA and i cant find an enclosure that's just ATA100?

Anyone save me from my befuddledment?

    cheers J

    Maplin.com?

Thats doesnt really make it clearer tbh & they seem much more expensive?

Do I just need an IDE bay like the one in the link even though its an 'enhanced' IDE drive (E-IDE)?

As above, Maplin sell one or they are a few quid from china via ebay if you can wait a week… Or if you are near bristol I can lend you one.

Edit, missed you link… that'll work fine I think

    ARG!

The question is do I just need an IDE one like in the link above? There's still about 20 different ones on the maplins site im just trying to work out what type i need IDE/SATA/pATA etc?

IDE/EIDE. The one in your link should be fine

    Assuming it looks like this:

    Either this

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=28724

which is to connect it to a internal ide cable

    OR

the other option is more expensive
