Me and a mate are in the mood to head down for some biking south of the border and some advice is needed.

We are looking for 2 big routes that has a hostel or bike friendly B&B close by. We know absolutely nothing about the area so any advice is welcome.

Rocky techy stuff is the order of the day. 😀

Up Helvellyn then down Dollywaggon, Nan Bield, Ullswater Bridleway
    Weekend or Midweek?

Disappointed. Thought it was going to be a thread about Cumbria-specific underwear.

Being STW, I’m surprised no-one has started that

Other rides to check out would be the tour of great gable from seatoller buttermere blacksail pass and back. Walna Scar road also awesome as long as you ride it west to east.

Other location that’s good to use as a base is Ambleside. The YHA there is actually very good.

if it’s mid week somebody fromt the Keswick Tuesday night lot will probably be along soon, worth a trip out. Bring lights, armour and a sense of humour (all of the B&B owners come out too)

Have a look on strava at the area your riding, might give you some routes ?

Ok, looking around the Keswick area seems to throw up a good range of riding nearby. Any ideas?

I’m no means an expert on the Lakes but of the stuff I’ve ridden near Keswick the “Borrowdale Bash” was a lot of fun.

The Veterbrae publishing guide to the lakes is pretty good, that combined with the 1:25000 OS maps will see you right.

Following on from mikewsmith (Hi BTW)…..

    Armour………….Yes!
    Sense of humour….Yes!
    Lights………….?.

At the moment it`s ok without, unless something bad happens. But then someone will stay with you……

Sometimes they are`nt necessary….. Last time i saw Mark go down Castle Crag Graveyard (in the Pitch balck) He switched his lights off!!!!!! 😯 😯 😯
