I’m planning on riding the Tim Woodcock St Bees – Robin Hoods bay coast to coast route in early Spetember this year, and could so with a little route advice for the first part of the lakes leg.

The detailed route goes something along the lines of Ennerdale Water, Blacksail Pass, Wasdale Head, Eskdale Fell, Eskdale, Harter fell & Walna Scar Road down to Coniston. However I have heard a few horror stories with some of this section being totally unridable. Has anyone done this section and know if its worth doing, or are there better tracks that miss out the hike- a-bike sections without completely spoiling the ride.
