Fantasy n+1, humour me.

Just had use of an ECR for a week and really enjoyed it.
Only used on roads and smooth bridleways, but loved the comfy ride, the traction and the stupidly funny way it goes downhill.

Bit of research suggests the ECR is a fair bit lower and longer than the Krampus.

I’d be using it for fun offroad, bit of lightweight touring and exploring and longer offroad days out.

Don’t think I’d need all the capacity of the ECR, got an old Rockhopper that gets used with panniers on road and I wouldn’t want to cart too much stuff offroad anyway.

So, can I carry a decent amount of stuff on a Krampus without spending a further fortune on braze ons or custom luggage?

Any pedalstrike problems with the ECR?
OK with standard 29’ers as a temporary bodge?

And, most importantly, is the Krampus a lot more fun than the ECR?

Just an observation – how tall are you? Bear in mind that a 29+ tyre doesn’t leave much room beneath the saddle for a seatpack unless you are reasonably tall. Of course, this is exacerbated with a low BB and with longer cranks. That’s why I’ll be going B+

The one I borrowed was a large, I think.
Didn’t check the clearance after I’d lowered the seat.

I’ll have to go and try a small.

Seem to be lots out there with decent sized seatpacks, tbh.

I’m 5’6″ on a small krampus

I’m just basing it on my own experience running a “normal” 29er and being 5’7″. That leaves little room and that’s with a higher-than-average BB.

Got a photo of that with a decent sized seatpack on?

Not ridden the ECR but do ride a Krampus and love it. I’m sure you could make it work, with what you are describing it doesn’t sound you would be carrying masses anyway.

I have a Krampus Ops with a Surly nice rack. Not carried more than 30g but super stable under load.

I went Krampus as I wanted something that was fun to ride unloaded too. Not regretted purchase and it’s my most used bike.

I only wish I had enabler forks on my Krampus.
I’m running a medium, and with a frame bag in situ, the bottle cages are about useless.. 😥

Bottles in place- no room for the medium Tangle bag I have sadly..

Having said that, it’s an awesome bike.
Love it.

can you not use these to mount your bottle cages lower? (might need side pull cages rather than the Iris’ you have)

I’ve got the Krampus Ops frameset, in large, got an Apidura framebag in there, no need for extra brake ons, and a good deal less expensive than Revelate stuff.

Great capability loaded for bike packing, silly fun for mucking around on unladen. Love it.
