always felt my right knee wasn’t quite right and the foot pointed out slightly in relation to it . wasn’t really a problem most of my life but the last few years with onset of arthritis i’m wondering how much this contributes and makes the pain worse. A quick look with google comes up with a few sites and info in relation to this with exercises etc to help alignment. Anyone had experience of this problem and improved it in any way?
which type of specialist should one consult consult in this case for definitive advice ..physio or other?
    thanks in advance

My left is the same and only gives me pain when I fit new cleats and don’t take the trouble to ensure that the angle is right. If the foot is operating on the pedal and there’s any limit on foot rotation from the cleat limit, instant knee discomfort is the result. My feet do swivel on the pedals, in common with many people’s feet I expect.

Internally rotated femur by the sounds of it. Stretching and strengthening should fix it. Specifically stretching your inner leg muscles and strengthening your hip rotators to get your femur to externally rotate. Youtube should have some vids.

ignore anything you might read online, or might see via any videos and go and see a physio who will give you some advice and exercises specific to YOU to get your problems sorted

    +1 Physio.

Either that or go and watch Misery for a DIY solution.

If you lie in a bath or pool does that leg twist by itself …
One of my legs has always done that (so long as i remember) though since ripping the meniscus I wonder if its correctable as I approach 50… (and all the other stuff that comes after)

yes ..i tore my medial meniscus 15yrs ago as well as various injuries earlier in life. Seems they come back to haunt you unfortunately ,despite thinking they healed and have gone.

This is interesting, I’ve always just assumed that I just had a wonky pointing out foot. I’ll have a look at physio.

Currently off the bike for not fitting new cleats properly and buggering my knees, physio pointed out right duck foot and cleats forcing it to point forward not being a good combo. Currently been told to attack it with a stick to work out all the knots in my quads and to order some pedal extenders. Hope it will get sorted but already had to cancel some events this year, boo
