    Hi,

I have a couple of Islabike 20″s that I maintain for the nippers.

On one the grip shift is difficult to get in to 1st gear.

The rear mech seems fine and indexed, it’s just to get it in to first the kiddo has to stop and I have to give it a blimmin’ good twist to get it in to gear, then off we go up the hills again.

It’s on it’s second kid and it has been ridden a fair bit in all conditions in case so components could be worn. It would just be good if anyone had an idea of likely candidates to save me replacing the drive chain and starting at the wrong place.

Maybe the grip shift just wearing out, new cables, both or something else?

I’m currently thinking of starting with the cables, then the shifter then working back from there.

    Thanks for your help.

Gears are a nightmare at that age.

I swapped gripshift for normal shifters, but even then unless the cable routing is spot on they’ll struggle.

Bar end shifters have the greatest leverage, but that won’t help you if it’s a MTB setup (without converters)
