My 8 year-old needs a new bike. He’s a little in between sizes but I want to try him on a 24in wheeled bike.

Apart from the brands listed above, what else should I be considering? It’s for bridleways, blue & green trails, towpaths and roads.

Orbea do some well specced kids bikes. I was looking at one when I bought the Beinn 24 for my eldest.

Also Frog are similar but cheaper (due to lower spec – but still OK).

EDIT: My son was, iirc, 123cm when I bought him the Beinn 24. Some of the 24″ bikes have a very sloping top tube and the saddle will go very low. Some models don’t.

Pinnacle. The Cube 24’s also look quite nice, not seen one in the flesh. Recently got my 9yr old daughter a second hand Giant XTC 24, not a bad bike all round, even the unnecessary cheap suspension forks move with her on it (freshly serviced and lubed).

This comes up all the sodding time.

And I always say Pinnacle, cos they are cheaper than the others, very well thought out and well designed for kids.

ultimately depends on what the bike is for. If its just for riding about the streets I wouldn’t bother spending much.
