  • Just in case anyone was wondering what components were in a X9 shifter.

It was royally **** anyway (the up-shift levers articulation was 360 degrees) so I took it apart to see if it would be fixable, no it would not, it was very broken, bits of metal had sheared off of other bits of metal and would need to be TIG welded and machined to work again. Do not try this with a working shifter, springs went everywhere. No it did not go back together.

I taught myself how to rebuild them. Not easy and you need 3 hands really.

    Must be a common fault..

My 4 day old X0 3speed shifter did exactly the same thing..

I went to upshift and it clicked and lost all tension. When I opened it up, bits of metal fell out..

    Not good

Especially, like my, ahem, mate, at the side of a track, mid-ride, and especially when it was the other shifter that was broken but, ahem, he got a bit confused after turning the bike upside down 😳
