    Evening all,

Quick update for those interested. Had physio today and despite my small mishap 2 weeks ago when I fell down some stairs my knee is making great progress.

Very happy with the movement and about of flexibility I have in the knee, very strong for a month on aswell. Was on the balance board and felt ok.. A bit stiff behind knee after it but no lasting pain.

Was also on cross trainer to see how I got on, that was fine aswell… So much so that he has said I can get back on the bike (just on turbo trainer mind u).. Well happy as it means the first ride of the new CX bike is a step closer!

I have been doing the exercises religiously.. Even after a long day and not getting in until after 21:00, and it has paid off. Feels great to know the hard work and pain has been worth it.

If anybody is currently going through the recovery or has it coming up… Just make sure u do what the physios say.. And don’t rush it!

Off to set up my turbo trainer now… Yippeeeee!

    Holy Thread Resurrection!

I was just wondering how your recoveries were going a_a and 1981miked? Just had my appointment with the specialist and he has confirmed my suspicions that I may have ruptured my ACL. Booked in for an MRI scan in the next couple of weeks and then a follow up appointment on the 2/1/15. This is the third fairly major injury i’ve had on the same knee in 3 yrs (dislocation and torn meniscus previously) so I think its probably about time I hung my rugby boots up at the tender age of 23 🙁

My major concern at the moment is that I’m booked in for the Alps at the White Room on the 11th to the 18th July next year. Assuming I can get operated on by late Jan to early Feb, stick to the rehab religiously and wrap myself in cotton wool prior to the trip, what do you think my chances are of being able to go (based on your experiences)?

Just bought a new downhill bike that looks as though its not going to get ridden for a while as well 😥 Any help or thoughts much appreciated.

    Cheers!

Mine was done on sept 15. Recovery going ok. Still a slight limp and going down stairs a struggle, however I also had a cartilage tear and locked knee done in march from the same crash so I’m going slowly. Not sure I’ll be throwing myself down an alps for a while though. Physio says 9 months to be recovered but up to two years to regain “confidence”.

Had BTB ACL reconstruction and meniscus trim 2 days ago and pleasantly surprised how mobile i am. Swollen, bloody and painful (between doses), but weight-bearing straight out the hospital and hobbling about ok. Physio reckons 6 months for full recovery if i work hard enough so i’m aiming for that. Plenty to keep me busy including late 2015 race planning, Whistler trip and new bike build. Hopefully back out on the trails by spring time. 😉

@p7 good luck, always good to have a goal.

A good friend broke hers jumping on a wake board. Just had the surgery, not due back at work for 3 months.

So mine was done sept 15th. Doing pretty well will be getting off the hamster wheel in the garage this week and out on the road bike. MTB still muddy from the crash in feb cant see that changing anytime soon!

@aa so you broke / damaged yours on the mtb ?

@p7 that’s the full reconstruction (hamstring segment put into knee) plus some meniscus work. I think the French employers are a bit more flexible. When I was doing my rehab in Paris last year (no surgery just rehab) there was a guy who’d been off two months doing physio 5 days a week. All these sorts of stories out me off having a reconstruction

acl and pcl in different legs around 25 to 30 years ago.had carbon fibre ligaments put in. one of the grafts was not good so was done again with part of the hamstring i think.
have played competetive squash for around 15 years an mountain bikes for around 10 years with a fair few arthroscopys thrown in over the years to keep me moving.had tkr 3 months ago on right knee and having tkr on left knee in around 6 months. I am going back to work after christmas for a few months which may be fun as my job is industrial roofer. Think i might have to find a new trade sooner or later 😥

Yep went over the bars at speed at Bike Park Wales, knee was locked due to cartage damage so that was done in march and while looking around they found the snapped acl, was offered op in july but it would have ruined my holiday so it was done in september. Only 3 weeks off work. I was told my knee would last better if I bad the acl done.
