  • Judging a resturant by its toilets…

It always amazes me the cleanliness of toilets or when they were last painted.
I’m in a well known pizza parlour in Muswell HIll and the bogs are minging!
Last time I was here was about 5 years ago an I said I’d never come back but alas here for a birthday !
Now this pizza place makes a fortune busy every day… Why don’t some places just spend a bit of money and do the bogs up ?

Am I alone on this thought ???

Hang on…you’re literally sat in the cubicle of a pizza restaurant, posting a thread on STW about the toilets being filthy…on your birthday?

Must be a pretty shitty party. My condolences.

Always, I/we rate a restaurant by the condition of its toilets.

Now wash your hands you dirty boy 😆

If they can’t be arsed to keep the bit you are allowed to see clean, then just imagine what goes on the kitchen!

Bon appetit, but I wouldn’t go more than fifty yards from a khazi for the next day or so…….

One place I worked used to frequent Chinese restaurant in Nottingham that was incredible value for money, but had the most minging toilets.

Didn’t stop a couple of my colleagues consummating their relationship in them one night though…..

Ha! You should go to India. There’s a restaurant in Goa called Viva Goan which sells the bestest value for money food around with proper smiley staff, but…the bogs are probly cleaner than the kitchen! Doesn’t stop me going back though. (next January, accommodation & flights booked)

I survived the night…wont be going back though !

Not alone in my thoughts plenty of reviews also say the same…surprising that a well regarded establishment wont put some nice traps in !

Judge a resturant by the state of its kitchen, they arent cooking the food you are about to consume in the toilets 😕

Our work takes us in to various reaturant kitchens, needless to say there are some places we dont eat at.

MOST Chinese restaurant bogs are minging. Funnily I always feel knackered (MSG) or have the squits (just MSG this time?) if I eat in 90% of them.

Alot of Indian/Pakistani restaurants who have got their act together have spotless toilets.

They say you can judge a society by how it treats its most vulnerable.

I think this concept is fairly extended to restaurants and their toilets.

If you want nice gents toilets, try Barton Grange Garden Centre, near Preston. You may be slightly surprised 🙂

As Hora says, Chinese ones are just not right.

I live here, some excellent restaurants, but the toilets.. just grim.

First time my mum came to visit me, quite a conservative lady she is, went to the loo, came out and said..

I’d rather P!$$ myself then go to there

It was the first time, in nearly 30 years that I heard my mother swear.

On the positive, I use it as hypoxic training.

Just google Chinese toilets. (should come under the thread, things you shouldn’t google.)

As it happens, this is in line with some guidance my father taught me, namely to always judge an establishment by the bogs. Thinking being, if they look after the nastier part well, they’re more likely to really look after the rest even better!

    He also taught me to;
    Never trust a Fifer
Never trust a man who whistles in a lift

    All sound advice, I feel.

There used to be a Chinese restaurant in Manchester China Town- they had a problem with flies in the restaurant and the upstairs was permanently dark/closed. The food has never ever been bettered though. Then the owners were murdered.

I used to manage a well know bar/cafe/restaurant/club in South London and it was a real eye opener to go in the toilets at the end of the evening. Some people are just scum 😯 ! Plus we could hardly keep up with the repairs as at least once a week one of the toilet bowls got smashed and it was usually the women`s that were the worse!

Now here in Germany you can go to the scuzziest punk clubs and the toilets are impeccable! Admittedly a covered in graffiti kind of impeccable.

I was in a toilet in a restaurant in Saigon which will haunt me forever.

Hungover beyond comprehension, I had to make my way swiftly to the toilet, the thought of the smell of that place still wakes me in the middle of the night. The place was horrific, I struggle to describe it to people. To add to my woes, I couldn’t find any toilet paper or a hose (school boy error). It was about 45 degrees inside and I was slowly losing my mind, dripping with sweat, confused and dizzy. so I telephoned a mate who was still in the restaurant and told him my predicament. 2 or 3 mins later a small Vietnamese woman wanders in (no lock, just a sliding door) and starts handing me paper while i’m still sat on the loo. She didn’t seem to want to leave though and kept talking at me in vietnamese. It all got a bit too much so I stood up with my trousers still round my ankles and sort of shuffled her out of the door.

Not the best start to the day! 🙂

I’m not sure you’ve quite gauged the tone of my local correctly. 🙂

inversely McD’s toilets are always in a good condition…. always worth a visit when bike touring and better than most campsites.

At least they wash the veg.

In MOST restaurants how often do the cooks wash their hands? You see them out back with their cook hats/aprons on sat smoking. Nice.

A food pub place near me – central Manchester/STW’ers have been there before for a night out. I found out they’d be ‘awarded’ 1/5 cleanilness stars by the Council. Nice.

I’ve worked in quite a few restaurants over the years, mostly as a chef, but also as waiting staff, and I can honestly say that i’ve never worked in a kitchen where the chefs didn’t wash their hands constantly. Granted, many of them stank of fags and booze all the time, but their hygiene in the kitchen was spot on. You can’t get away with anything less in a commercial kitchen, you’re putting out hundreds of meals a day, it wouldn’t take long at all before people started getting ill.

One of my favourite restaurants has pretty crap toilets. They spent all their start up money on the kitchen and have to make some money to move forward. I’ll put up with shabby but clean Loo’s to eat there.

Just back from a day cycling around Windermere and the public bogs in Hawkshead are the nicest and cleanest I’ve seen for years.

To the OP; the most disgusting restaurant bogs are Starbucks; really gopping.
