I have a Loop Bar that is currently set up with a Rohloff shifter and a pair of Shimano’s rather excellent XT Trekking cable pull levers.

The extra length of the lever means that even with my hands near the tips of the bar I can get a finger on the brakes, helpful on the down hills 😆

Moving the bars over I’ll be using a conventional shifter, possibly I Spec (?) so mounter to the lever.

The head scratcher comes from where to place the lever. With the longer levers above I have loads of different hand places but with stubby XT disc levers there appears to be compromise in not being able to cover the brake and use the full width of the bars …. and I have large hands!

So what’s your set up like?

    Just like this…..in fact, this!

I don’t see the point of the super long grips you can use with them.

I can use the full bar width with this set up with ease.

    Hope this helps?

Thank you Sanny – that’s really helpful.

I had read your bits on the ICT but clearly missed the article on the bars.

This was, until recently, my loop bar set up looked like this:

So actually not a million miles off of your set up …. Hmmmm

Mine – I like a double wrap of tape. It’s nice and squishy for resting hands on top of.
